To ensure you have access to the most advanced and robust website analytics capabilities, CivicPlus will have shifted to the sole use of industry-leader Google Analytics on December 31, 2021. We began researching alternative analytics solutions when we were notified that Piwik is ending life on the current Piwik solution that many of our customers use today. As we have researched Google Analytics and compared it to other analytics providers’ functionality, we have quickly become excited about the benefits it will bring to customers to use the leading industry analytics provider with an extensive functionality set.
What Does This Mean for You?
While we are disappointed with Piwik’s decision to end the life of the analytics system, our primary goal is to ensure that your website is successfully transitioned to tracking web analytics data through Google Analytics to ensure you do not experience a gap in reporting capabilities.
To those of you that already use Google Analytics, there will be no impact to you and you can continue to utilize Google Analytics as you do today.
Next Steps
To make this transition simple for your team, CivicPlus will create a Google Analytics account and will place the necessary Google Analytics code within the backend of your website so that it can begin gathering data. As with Piwik in the past, each organization can have one user with direct access to Google Analytics to create custom reports for the rest of the organization. An email has been sent to our main point of contact for your organization asking them to have an authorized signer determine which person should have access to Google Analytics.
Historical Data Access
To ensure any historical Piwik data remains available to you, we have contracted with Piwik to allow you to log into Piwik for another year, until the end of 2022, to access your historical web analytics data. We highly suggest that you log into Piwik and save any historical data you’ll want to refer back to. Piwik will stop tracking new analytics data on Dec. 31, 2021 but Piwik can still be accessed to see or export historical data through the end of 2022. Google Analytics will be our new web analytics provider moving forward.
